About Luggage Locks
When you’re travelling, you want to secure your luggage. Luggage locks not only secure your luggage, but also deter any would be luggage thieves at the luggage carousel. And an overlooked aspect is that they also prevent accidental bag openings and spills. If an airport employee accidentally opened your bag and spilled your stuff, you might never know, and be stuck wondering where your socks - or your expensive new jewelry - went.
The federal Transportation Security Administration has certain locks which approve, because the TSA must be able to open luggage locks for security screenings. The TSA can open approved locks with keys and procedures provided by the lock manufacturer. If faced with a non-approved lock, the TSA may force entry, either by breaking the lock - or by breaking the luggage. Looks for the “TSA Approved” logo on the locks, and check the TSA website for a list of approved locks.
